TFBT Club Program

TFBT Club programs are in each of the Troy City Schools elementary buildings and Van Cleve 6th Grade Building. The program promotes self-esteem, develops manners, fosters family support and teaches valuable life skills. In weekly group mentoring meetings, led by a TFBT/Troy City Schools staff member, our Club students learn leadership and life skills to guide their academic paths. Family Events are also hosted by TFBT to engage the students and their guardians in fun-filled and educational activities throughout the year! Students who need temporary/ongoing intervention apply for this opportunity in the fall of fourth grade and are admitted into the program by school staff. Ask your school principal for more information.

TFBT Club Family Events

Family Events bring TFBT Club parents and students together for fun activities, education, and introduction to outstanding community resources. This was developed to promote family engagement at no cost to the students. TFBT builds partnerships with other local academic support organizations such as the Lincoln Community Center, Partners in Hope, Troy Miami County Public Library and more to share with families the full spectrum of student support available to them near home. Donors and volunteers make our highly-attended events possible for our
TFBT families!

Homework Helper Program

Homework Helper Program in Troy City Schools provides necessary resources, facilitators and a school environment for students to complete their homework. TFBT recognizes that to be successful, students must stay on top of their homework, show discipline and responsibility with their assignments, and build confidence to ask questions.  TFBT provides skilled Troy City Schools staff members to guide students with their work during the school year for students beginning in the fourth grade. Contact your school office in the fall for more information!

Lunch Buddy Program

TFBT’s Lunch Buddy Program was one of the earliest academic support programs offered, developed more than 25 years ago, it continues to have a significant impact on the students enrolled. Community adult mentors are paired with students beginning in the fourth grade. They have lunch together one day a month. This relationship creates opportunities for the Lunch Buddy to talk with the students about their futures and to connect with, listen and encourage them along their academic path. Students find themselves thinking about careers, training, college and aspirations for their future. Lunch Buddies are rewarded with smiles and gratitude as they meet with their students regularly. Some Lunch Buddies even make opportunities to take their Lunch Buddy to museums, shows, sporting events or to spectate at the student’s activities. Those who volunteer as a Lunch Buddy feel genuinely rewarded by the impact that this program has on a child. Parents of students in the Lunch Buddy program comment on the positive influence the program has on their child. For this or other TFBT volunteer opportunities, enroll here!

Last Dollar Grant Program

Last Dollar Grants are awarded to Troy graduates who display financial need when pursuing post-secondary training or academics. More than $700,000 has been awarded since the year 2000! Students tell us that the Last Dollar Grant program made the difference in their ability to continue their education.

The Washington Post report states, “A growing number of children start kindergarten already trailing their more privileged peers and rarely, if ever, catch up. They are less likely to have support at home, are less frequently exposed to enriching activities outside of school, and are more likely to drop out and never attend college.” They are, overall, less likely to succeed.

TFBT addresses these needs. Our funding and mentorship programs play a very important role in the lives of our students.

“I am so thankful for all of your efforts to change the lives of these students.”
