Opportunity
We build pathways, from homework help today to college and career tomorrow.

Our History
The Future Begins Today’s initial programming began in two Troy City Schools buildings in 1993. In 1999, TFBT became a nonprofit organization, thanks to the support of local philanthropists, business leaders, and educators who recognized that education is the foundation of a strong local economy, and that some students needed extra support to bridge the gap between home and the classroom. What began more than 30 years ago with fewer than 30 students in two elementary schools has grown into a city-wide program now serving more than 1,500 Troy students and their families.
What Troy City Schools Leaders Say
“As Superintendent of Troy City Schools, I am deeply proud to support The Future Begins Today. Education requires a true partnership between our schools and the community, and TFBT is essential in ensuring every child has the resources to succeed. Through programs like Lunch Buddy mentoring, Homework Helper academic support, and Last Dollar Grants for graduating seniors, TFBT breaks down financial and social barriers for our students at every stage of their journey. To every mentor, donor, and volunteer involved, thank you for investing in our youth. Supporting The Future Begins Today truly means building a brighter future for all of Troy.” — Chris Piper, Superintendent, Troy City Schools
What Troy City Schools Leaders Say
“What makes TFBT such an important partner at Troy High School is the opportunities they have provided our students with to make connections with adult role models within our school and community, and for our students to see the bright futures ahead of them. Specifically, TFBT provides the Trojan Futures program, which supports opportunities for our high school students to explore careers, be exposed to internships and job shadowing opportunities, future planning/coaching, and more. This program has been very successful and has continued to adapt and change with the needs of our students and community.” — Alexis Dedrick, Principal, Troy High School
